DAD LINK Fiber Optic OS2 ST-SC Duplex Patch Cord

The DAD LINK Fiber Optic OS2 ST-SC Duplex Patch Cord is a single mode hybrid jumper on 9/125 um OS2 fiber, terminated with ST bayonet connectors at one end and an SC duplex connector at the other. DAD LINK supplies it across Iraq specifically for retrofit work, where legacy ST-terminated plant has to reach current SC equipment.

ST is an older bayonet-coupling connector that is no longer specified for new installations, but a great deal of it is still live in Iraq. University campuses, ministry buildings and industrial sites cabled in the 1990s and 2000s frequently present ST bulkheads on the frame, and replacing that termination means re-splicing fiber that is already working. An ST-SC cord avoids that: the ST end mates to the existing bulkhead, the SC end lands on the new panel or converter, and the installed plant is left alone. A campus block in Erbil being brought onto a new core switch is the typical case, and the alternative of an ST-to-SC adapter plus a second cord adds mated pairs and points of failure for no benefit.

Which cord do you need

Only specify ST when an ST bulkhead already exists and cannot be re-terminated. For anything new on the same single mode fiber, the OS2 SC-SC duplex patch cord is the standard part, and where the active side uses LC optics the OS2 LC-LC duplex patch cord gives roughly twice the port density at the panel. If the retrofit is a chance to rebuild the termination properly, land the fiber in a 19 inch 24 core rack mount ODF enclosure and standardise the site on SC or LC.
