How to choose a server rack

Five decisions cover almost every project:

• Mounting. Wall-mounted racks keep floor space clear in offices, shops and wiring closets. Floor-standing cabinets carry server and UPS weight and take deeper equipment. Compare Wall-Mounted Racks against Free-Standing Server Racks.
• Height in U. One rack unit (1U) is 44.45 mm of mounting height. Add up the U of every device, then allow extra U for patch panels, cable management and future growth.
• Depth. A 450 mm frame suits switches and patch panels. 600 mm takes most servers. The 1000 mm deep cabinet is for enterprise servers and dual-PDU builds.
• Static load. Wall-mounted enclosures are rated 70 kg. MS4-series floor-standing cabinets are rated 1000 kg. The QL3-series wide cabinet is rated 2400 kg.
• Assembly and freight. Welded MW-series enclosures arrive ready-assembled. MP-series wall racks and the floor-standing frames ship flat-packed as knock-down kits, which lowers freight cost and eases handling on long road shipments inside Iraq.

Rack range at a glance

All families are declared to ANSI/EIA RS-310-D, IEC 60297, DIN 41494 Part 1 and Part 7, with UL and RoHS. Floor-standing cabinets add ETSI and are rated IP20 with an optional top fan unit.

Where these racks are used in Iraq

ISPs rolling out FTTH across the Kurdistan Region use 27U to 42U cabinets in aggregation rooms and street-side POPs, usually paired with rack-mount ODF enclosures and a high-outlet PDU. Government offices and bank branches standardise on 18U to 22U cabinets for a locked server room with a small UPS. University campuses in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah fit 9U to 15U wall racks in each building riser and feed them back to a 42U core cabinet. New-build offices and retail fit-outs generally need a 6U or 9U wall enclosure holding one switch, a patch panel and a router. Telecom operators buying for high-density rows take the 800 mm wide QL3 cabinet so that vertical cable management sits beside the equipment rather than behind it.
