FTTH Box
An FTTH box (also called a fiber distribution box or a fiber termination box) is the enclosure at the subscriber end of a fiber network, where a feeder cable is split, spliced and broken out into individual drops to homes, apartments or offices. It mounts on a wall or a pole, protects every splice inside its bend radius, and presents the drops as connectorised ports. All four sizes ship empty, which is deliberate. Iraqi last-mile builds mix SC and LC hardware and different splice-tray conventions between operators, so the installer populates each box with the adaptors, pigtails and tray that match the network being built rather than paying for hardware that has to be stripped out.
How to choose an FTTH box
- Count the drops the enclosure has to serve, then leave headroom. A box that is exactly full at handover means a second enclosure and a second site visit at the first new subscriber.
- Match the mounting to the site. Wall mount for building facades, risers and stairwells. Pole mount for aerial distribution along a street.
- Decide the connector standard before ordering the consumables. The box is empty, so the SC or LC choice is made when you order adaptors and pigtails, not when you order the enclosure.
- Match the fiber grade. Last-mile work in Iraq is single mode OS2, and PON specifies an APC polish, so OS2 APC pigtails are the usual pairing.

All four accept SC and LC adaptors and pigtails, fitted separately, and support single mode OS2 and multimode fiber. Each is designed for drop-cable termination, fusion splicing and distribution in one enclosure.
FTTH deployment in Iraq
Iraq is in the middle of a national fiber build-out, and the passive plant is where the volume sits. A typical deployment runs feeder fiber from the operator node into an ODF or a street cabinet, then distribution fiber out to an FTTH box on each building, then individual drops to each subscriber. New residential towers in Erbil, apartment blocks in Baghdad, and municipal and campus builds in Sulaymaniyah and Duhok all consume the same chain of parts.
