Adapters
A fiber optic adapter, also called a fiber coupler or a bulkhead coupler, is the passive sleeve that holds two fiber connectors nose to nose so light passes cleanly from one to the other. It is what turns a pigtail into a usable port on the front of a panel, and what lets a patch cord plug into an ODF, an FTTH box or a wall outlet. DAD LINK supplies fiber adapters across Iraq, from Erbil and the Kurdistan Region to Baghdad, in SC and LC, single mode and multimode, simplex, duplex and 4 core formats.
How to choose a fiber adapter
- Connector family must match on both sides. An SC adapter mates two SC connectors, an LC adapter mates two LC connectors. Adapters do not convert one connector type into another. If you need to bridge SC to LC, use a hybrid LC-SC patch cord instead.
- Single mode or multimode. The sleeve tolerance differs. Single mode adapters use a tighter ceramic alignment sleeve suited to a 9/125 um core. Multimode adapters are matched to 50/125 um and 62.5/125 um plant. Using the wrong one adds avoidable loss at every mated pair.
- Polish must match on both sides. UPC mates to UPC, APC mates to APC. Mating an angled endface to a flat one damages the ferrule and wrecks the link budget.
- Simplex, duplex or 4 core. Simplex holds one mated pair, duplex holds two, and a 4 core unit holds four in a single panel cut-out. Higher-density units save panel space on dense ODF builds, which matters when a 48 core frame has to fit in a shared rack.

Where fiber adapters are used in Iraq
Adapters are a per-port consumable, so they are ordered by the tray, not by the piece. Every populated position in an ODF enclosure needs one, and so does every drop presented in an FTTH box. On ISP last-mile work across Iraq the SC single mode units dominate, because SC remains the standard on Iraqi FTTH plant. In data centres and server rooms in Erbil and Baghdad the LC units take over, since LC matches SFP and QSFP optics and fits twice as many ports in the same panel width.
Order them alongside fiber pigtails, which they mate on the rear, and fiber patch cords, which plug into the front. Connector and polish background: Fiber Optic Patch Cord Types Explained.
