Choosing the right accessories

• Count your outlets before your U. Pick the PDU by the number of powered devices, then add two spare outlets for future kit. A small comms cabinet is usually fine on 6 outlets, a mid-size cabinet on 10 or 12, and a fully populated rack needs 15.
• Match shelf depth to the cabinet, not just the device. A 275 mm shelf fits shallow wall enclosures, 425 mm suits standard wall and floor cabinets, and 650 mm is for full-depth server racks carrying heavier equipment.
• Blank every empty U. Unfilled U spaces let cold supply air recirculate straight back without passing through the equipment, which raises intake temperatures across the whole cabinet. Blanking panels also dust-seal the front face, which matters in Iraqi server rooms.
• Dress the cables. Tidy horizontal routing keeps patch cords out of the airflow path and makes later changes far quicker. See DAD LINK Cable Management.
